Naturelles
2018-2021
"Naturelles" is a reflection on the representation of women, beauty standards, and a different proposition of femininity with a minimalist, natural, and authentic aesthetic.
The first step of the project was to identify the codes of female body representation in the media or social networks. The idea was to determine these codes and to move away from them as much as possible. To achieve this, the idea of a protocol was established for each appointment:
The choice of models: There is no selection made in advance. A message received from a person interested in the project inevitably leads to an appointment being made in the following days/weeks. Most of the people met will have never posed before.
The photo shoot takes place at the person's home, in their element. With very little or no adjustments made during the shoot.
There is no addition of artificial light in addition to natural light.
The models do not wear makeup. A perhaps sensitive point but one that has brought a lot of material for reflection and is in line with the search for a different, more realistic feminine beauty.
There are no "beauty" retouches. Only corrections for framing, light, and color in order to match the reality of the moment have been applied. No post-production modifications of small imperfections of the face or body.
The poses are inspired by everyday life, as far removed as possible from the exaggerated and exalted poses of fashion photography.
Another important aspect of the project is the course of the appointment since it is divided into two parts. The first is an interview of about an hour on themes such as beauty standards, among others conveyed on social networks, or feminism. Each appointment is a real meeting, a discussion around these topics that nourish and evolve the project. Moreover, since the photo shoot can be very complicated, the exchange at the beginning of the appointment greatly smoothed out the second part.
Today, the project has brought together 60 profiles where each appointment has been a real encounter of sharing and exchange on what it means to live as women today and leads to reflection on the responsibility we have on the way we should represent the female body.
